The Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU), Ikoyi-Lagos, under the leadership of CP Eloho Edwin Okpoziakpo, B.Sc, MILD, in collaboration with U.S Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI) and through the United States Consulate in Lagos, successfully conducted a capacity building training on Crypto Fraud Investigation for detectives of the Unit. The training, held at the Sunday Adewusi House, forms part of deliberate efforts to reposition the Unit in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, to build an intelligence-led, proactive, and technologically driven Police Force capable of addressing emerging financial crimes.
During the intensive session, officers were exposed to advanced techniques in cryptocurrency tracing, digital asset analysis, and investigative strategies required to combat cyber-enabled financial crimes. The training also provided valuable insights into the structure, usage, regulatory framework, and potential misuse of cryptocurrencies.
The workshop concluded with interactive sessions, enabling participants to engage with experts and deepen their practical understanding of crypto-related investigations. In his remarks, CP Okpoziakpo emphasized the urgent need for officers of the Unit to stay ahead of rapidly evolving technological trends, noting that a comprehensive understanding of cryptocurrency operations is critical to effective investigation and prosecution of modern financial crimes. He further reiterated his mandate to transform the Police Special Fraud Unit into a globally recognised investigative unit, driven by professionalism, innovation, and international best practices.
